The Dilemma of a Voter; To Risk or Not

Image
The thought of participating in an electoral process is exciting because it offers the rare opportunity to decide who becomes the next president or Member of Parliament. The voting rights give inalienable rights to demonstrate patriotism and love for the country. It also tasks us to question or challenge how the country is administered and change or maintain it. The former American President, Barack Obamaably posited, “The struggle for the Voting Rights Act taught us that people who love this country can change it. Don't give away your power - go vote”.   This explains the power, a person who is eligible, wields in a democratic country. Disenfranchising them based on a hurriedly arranged mechanism or violence defeats the purpose of elections and democracy.   The voting process is supposed to be peaceful and a happy experience, ho wever, the build up to elections in this country keeps getting scarier every electoral year. The 2019 shooting incident at the Ayawa...

Developing your career in Ghana can be very challenging especially if you don’t meet the right people who will nurture you to make an informed decision and most importantly set you on a very fulfilling career path. Fortunate enough, I had the rare opportunity to working with one of the best Corporate Communications Team in Africa. In that team, no one was a junior. It is said that Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin has an interesting formula; a formula which makes Virgin one of the most popular brands in the world. His formula is that always put the employee first because “Happy employees equal happy customers”. Similarly, he is said to believe in the fact that an unhappy employee can ruin the brand experience for not just one, but numerous customers and ensures that his employees are well taken care of, by going as far as to collect feedback by walking around the cabin and talking directly to the staff during his Virgin flights. So what is his rationale for doing this? Mr Branson believes that making employees the top priority can bring benefits for both customers and investors. He posits an employee-centric management strategy and in a 2014 interview noted that Virgin employees are the company's top priority; a position which might sounds counter to age-old business wisdom but he points out that this approach has worked so well for V...

Recounting the impact and experience with Tigo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

It was an exciting moment to see school children ran to share the joy we came with and the everlasting smile on their faces during our Shelter for Education #Homecoming trip. It threw me back to my primary school days at Nsakina in the Ga West District in 1999, I was in class one. We lacked a lot of basic learning materials which included desks and tables. We had to bring our own tables and chairs to school. The perseverance led some of us through, while others dropped out because the setting and the structures was not attractive to studies enough. You come to school and you virtually had to write on the floor. The fortunate ones had writing board. The whole experience was challenging. It casts my mind back to when finally the government decided to release desks to us. The day the desks arrived, we went home late while others stayed on and wrote their names on the desks to identify it the next day. Being in Tupa and Adeiso both in the Greater Accra and Eastern Region respectively...
