Developing your career in Ghana can be very challenging especially if you don’t meet the right people who will nurture you to make an informed decision and most importantly set you on a very fulfilling career path. It was an exciting moment to see school children ran to share the joy we came with and the everlasting smile on their faces during our Shelter for Education #Homecoming trip. It threw me back to my primary school days at Nsakina in the Ga West District in 1999, I was in class one. We lacked a lot of basic learning materials which included desks and tables. We had to bring our own tables and chairs to school. The perseverance led some of us through, while others dropped out because the setting and the structures was not attractive to studies enough. You come to school and you virtually had to write on the floor. The fortunate ones had writing board. The whole experience was challenging. It casts my mind back to when finally the government decided to release desks to us. The day the desks arrived, we went home late while others stayed on and wrote their names on the desks to identify it the next day. Exactly a year ago, the country was plunged into a state of disarray and mourning where, according to media reports over 150 people lost their lives to the down pour that hit the country at circle, known as twin disaster. Children became orphans, young couple metamorphosed to widows and widowers, students lost their long held dreams and babies and children innocently succumbed to the running water helplessly to death.  No amount of tears, wailing could bring back the lost ones. Those who survived had their lives complicated with trauma and regrets yet had no choice than to thank God. They are dead and gone forever, they can only be remembered with a reflection of pains and curses. The state of Ghana’s Educational Decentralisation Policy International experience with decentralisation has motivated a well-known typology. This and other typologies for Ghana have the limitation that decentralisation experience in the region is still at an incipient stage. In most decentralized countries typologies begin with the necessary orientation to deconcentration, devolution and delegation. Recently, attention has been focused equally if not more on devolution to schools and school management committees (commonly called school autonomy and school-based management) at the grassroots level.
