Public schools to pay utility bills

Public schools to pay utility bills

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has hinted that utility bills of all public schools would be paid by parents as government withdraws subsidy for Senior High Schools (SHS).

The president of CHASS, Samuel Ofori Adjei confirmed the news saying "subsequently, we have to pass on the payment of the utilities to parents".

This development is as a result of government decision to withdraw payment of utilities to all public institutions including public schools, hospitals and security agencies.

A letter from the Ghana Water Company says government will no longer pay the utility bills of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The directive which was given in January this year, will take retrospective effect when implemented.
