CLOGSAG call off strike The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has officially called off its nationwide strike action over an unpaid and Top Up premium. The strike action was called off on Wednesday, following the intervention of the National Tripartite Committee, which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU). The MOU will allow for amicable settlement of the impasse on payment of Top Up/premium to members of CLOGSAG. The statement signed by the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampo Addo, indicated that the decision was taken at an Emergency National Council meeting held at the National Secretariat of CLOGSAG on Tuesday. The statement added “We take this opportunity to acknowledge the immense support of the industrial action by the entire CLOGSAG fraternity. We sincerely appreciate your tenacity of purpose, endurance of threats with which you embraced and participated in this all important endeavour”

Farmer lynched for beheading step daughter A 45-year-old farmer was lynched by a mob after he beheaded his three year-old step daughter, Efua Otoo, at Kyekyewere in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality. The incident occurred on Thursday around 10:40 hours and his body, together with the head of Efua, has since been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital morgue by the Nsueam police. The older brother of the deceased, Enoch Thomson told the Ghana News Agency that his mother, Ataa Krobo, and his step father, who they only know as Kwesi, have been living together for the past five months. He said on Thursday around 10:30 hours whilst returning from school to drink water at home, he met his step father holding a black polythene bag with a cutlass in it. Thomson said there was nobody in the house when he got home so he started searching for his grandmother and sister, as his mother had left for the farm. Another dead whale washed ashore in Ellembelle district. A dead whale has been washed ashore at Asanta in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region on Tuesday night. According to "Friends of the Nation", a social and environmental group, this incident adds up to the number of dead whales washed ashore within a 30-day period to six and total of 17 since 2009 The group argued that the ever increasing death of whale “is an indication that something wrong is happening in the marine environment [that] needs to be investigated.” There is strong suspicion that oil exploration activities in the Western Region could be the cause of the death of the whales. Lebanese Government Offers Scholarship To Top Students In GIJ. Seven students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) have been offered internal scholarship by the Lebanese government. The scholarship, which was first of its kind at the university sought to empower first year student of the University who have distinguished themselves among their co-equals. The scholarship covers tuition fees, books, accommodation and other academic materials.
